Enhanced durability
Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"I've owned a Timex for use as my daily beater most of my life. My last one, a 40 mm Expedition, lasted over ten years. The battery finally died, so I replaced it with the 43 mm version, which works better for my aging eyes. Love this watch. I've had it for about six months with no issues. Not a big fan of the OEM strap, so I replaced it with a black silicon one which cost almost as much as the watch. Much more comfortable. This watch takes a lot of daily abuse with no issues. As they say, "Timex takes a licking and keeps on ticking.""

"This watch, the body of it, the face, all of that is very nice. A great casual watch. Where my favor weans is with the leather strap. The leather feels very cheap, a lower quality and very much something that will not take a lickin' when the watch keeps tickin'! This certainly won't be a watch that someone can wear every day because that band will likely wear out in six months or less."
