INTRODUCTION TO SETTING YOUR TIMEX WATCH
There’s really only one reason you ended up here: you’re wondering how to set the day and date on a Timex watch. Setting the day and date on your watch is important for obvious reasons: you want to be able to quickly glance down at your wrist and know exactly what day it is and where you are in the month. While it might seem a bit tricky at first, setting these functions on your watch is actually quite simple.
In this guide, we’re showing you how to easily adjust both analog and digital Timex watches so you can keep yours accurate. No need to dig out the manual—just follow along to these simple steps.
SETTING THE DAY, DATE, AND TIME ON ANALOG TIMEX WATCHES
For our analog watches, like our beloved Easy Reader and Timex Legacy Day/Date, setting the day, date, and time is straightforward once you know the crown positions. The crown—the small knob typically found beside 3 o’clock on the case side of your watch—has different positions for adjusting time, day, and date. When you pull it out, you’ll notice subtle stops or “clicks.”
TO SET THE TIME:
1. Pull the crown out all the way to the third position.
2. Turn it in either direction to the correct time.
3. Push the crown all the way in.
TO SET THE DATE:
1. Pull the crown out to the second position.
2. Turn it in either direction to the correct date.
3. Push the crown all the way in.
TO SET THE DAY:
1. Pull the crown out all the way to third position.
2. Turn the crown in either direction for full 24-hour cycles to set the day.
3. Push the crown all the way in.
PRO TIPS FOR ANALOG TIMEX WATCHES:
- Water Resistance: Always make sure that the crown is fully pushed in after setting the day and date. This is crucial in maintaining your watch’s water resistance and keeping moisture out.
- Avoid Certain Hours: Don’t set the date between 10 PM and 2 AM, as doing so may damage the date-change mechanism.
- Battery Life: If your watch is battery-powered, you can store it with the crown pulled out to stop the movement and preserve battery life.
- If your date doesn’t change at midnight, it might be a case of a perpetual calendar feature (which adjusts dates automatically) needing an extra push to catch up. Simply follow the crown steps again, and you should be good to go.
SETTING THE DAY, DATE, AND TIME ON DIGITAL TIMEX WATCHES
For our digital watches, like our retro-style T80, the process is a little different but just as simple. Just follow these steps:
- Press the set button. You'll notice that the seconds will begin flashing.
- Press the start/stop button to reset the seconds so that they begin counting from 0.
- Press the mode button when done. This will bring you to the minutes, which should begin flashing.
- Press the start/stop button to set the desired minutes.
- Press the mode button when done. This will move onto the hours, which should begin flashing.
- Press the start/stop button to set the desired hour.
- Press the mode button to continue to the month, date, and year.
- Press set to exit at any time.
- Pro tip: Take notice of the A or P, signifying AM or PM, in the top righthand corner next to the date. Make sure you are setting the hour appropriately.
