Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"I love this watch. This is my second weekender. The other one is still working beautifully, but did not have the date function. That one has gone through the wash at least three times, and it kept working, and still looks like the day it came out of the box. I don't know why anyone would buy any other watch other than a Timex. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking!"
