Acrylic Crystal
A lightweight plastic polymer with excellent impact resistance and a warm vintage appearance that can be easily polished to remove scuffs.
Acrylic Crystal
Highly impact-resistant
Acrylic lens are a specialised form of plastic akin to Plexiglass and were commonly used in early to mid-20th century watches. It is a softer material that can be more prone to scratches but conversely is very shatter-resistant. Given its softness any scratches though can be buffed out. Acrylic lens are synonymous with vintage-inspired timepieces and thus can be found on our Marlin and Q Timex collections.

"Too cool for school. I love it. I have several high end luxury watches like Cartier, Omega, Zenith, etc. but this is nice because if I damaged it it’s no big deal. Sweet dial and the faceted domed crystal is unique. I didn’t even know the crystal was faceted from the photos. For the money it’s a no brainer. Quality leather strap and steal buckle. Oh, nice size too. Not too big, that scene is over, and not too small. Nice looking watch. And great Pulp Fiction story about Vincent Vega. Cooool"

So happy to have snagged
"So happy to have snagged this online at just the right time as I have never had a watch with a faceted crystal and I must admit that for the first 3 minutes, I played with different angles of light to reflect each individual angle. Killer cool look, and fits my slimmer wrist like a glove. Couldn’t be happier!"
— Nathan H. (5/5)
Great tribute to the original
"Great tribute to the original “Red Nebula”!! This reissue makes available the legendary vibe of the hard to find vintage classic."
— Brad G. (5/5)
As a broke amateur horologist
"As a broke amateur horologist I love the idea of so many new and innovative watches coming out of Timex. It’s not your grandfathers watch anymore. I have purchased 2 watches at this time and I have my eye on a couple more. Thank you for thinking of the little guys and gals we love watches also but not everyone can afford a Rolex or Patek."
— Bob S. (5/5)
I bought the same red
"I bought the same red nebula watch in 1978. I always liked the way it looked. I lost it somewhere. When I saw it was being re-issued I had to have it again. I like the watch overall. I remember the older one just feeling beefier. I don’t know if it’s worth $200 but for me it was nostalgic."
— Darin B. (3/5)
After scouring the preowned market
"After scouring the preowned market for the original in working condition, Timex out of the blue (red) announced this stunning reissue. I signed up for the alert and purchased immediately upon notification. Shipped free and fast! The watch is a faithful reissue and I really appreciate the balance of the ‘77 and ‘78 models. The signed crown is a nice touch. This is my first watch with a faceted crystal and I’m enjoying it. My only criticism is the nebula effect is a bright red where the original dials appeared to be a softer, more organic appearing burgundy. Perhaps my friends at Timex would care to comment here? Overall, a solid reissue and a beautiful watch. And yes, the main reason I purchased this gem is because of the overt connection to Pulp Fiction. Cheers."

This was an impulse buy. . . liked/liking
"This was an impulse buy. . . liked/liking its retro cool look and general simple "feel. " Looking forward to seeing if it prompts any reaction from people seeing me wearing it. Other than that, it simply feels like another watch."

Q&A
I love Pulp Fiction, so naturally this is the Vincent Vega’s watch I fancy. But just one question… where is it actually produced? Plenty of “proudly designed in” stuff and then made in china, etc. or “Japan movement, made in china/assembled in Thailand” etc.. nothing wrong to pay more for a Timex watch “proudly designed, made, and assembled in USA”. I’m paying top money for Swiss Made watches after all.
Hi Eric! Thanks so much for your question—and love the Pulp Fiction reference, great choice with the Q Timex Red Vega 1978 Reissue 38mm Leather Strap Watch. The country of origin for this model is based on its Japanese movement, which is known for its reliability and precision. We appreciate your interest in the craftsmanship behind the watch, and we’re always happy to help clarify!
Why don't you guys make red faced watches with red steel bands? Ditto with other colors. Or more kids watches? My son is 34, loves red (is not retarded or on the spectrum) and I would love to buy him a stylish watch with red face and red stainless steel in a larger band size. I'm actually very shocked to see that your variety is so incredibly limited. On the same token, my husband loves the desert, and was born and raised out west in Nevada, between Vegas and Death Valley. We like the Arizona watch picturing the saguaro but why not depict snow capped mtns behind a desert with tumbleweeds and a skull? Do you have route 66 watches? I'm a dog and pony girl. How about a watch series depicting different dog breeds? Or a special order concept where buyers send you a pic or short quote and it is soon the face of a watch? Do you offer these somewhere that I don't know? Is it your best kept secret? Why not pay me for my ideas and I will gladly propose more design options.
Hello Jennifer! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and creative ideas with us. We truly appreciate your passion for design and your interest in seeing more variety in our collections. At this time, we do not offer Route 66 watches, custom designs, or special-order watches, and we do not currently provide personalised face designs. That said, we sincerely value customer feedback like yours, and we will be happy to share your suggestions with our product team for future consideration.

You dropped the iconic coin-battery hatch. Why? How do you change this battery? This seems like a huge classic oversight.
Hello Greg! Thank you for your thoughtful question about the Q Timex Red Vega 1978 Reissue. While the classic coin-battery hatch was a hallmark of earlier designs, this reissue uses a screw-off case back instead. To change the battery, the case back needs to be unscrewed, this design helps improve durability and water resistance while maintaining the vintage-inspired look.
