Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"Overall: very great and unique quartz gmt for the price. Finishing is quality, and the rubber strap (despite other reviews) is really quite good. Reasoning for 4 stars however: second hand alignment is very noticeably off, and there is a visible speck of something in the lume on the minute hand. That being said, these two things HAVE NOT tainted my view of this watch as I still love it. Just worth noting."
"I like the styling very much. The rubber strap is comfortable and the watch doesn’t roll around on my wrist. One thing is disappointing. Eventually the strap will fatigue and fail and I cannot buy a new strap."
"The watch arrived in new condition, no damaged to the box or watch in shipping. Upon unwrapping, the first thing that jumped out at was how handsome this watch was. The black sundial face with polished and brushed stainless steel features and believe it or not the black rubbed band, make this watch pop. While I have only had this watch for couple of weeks, the time keeping seems to be very accurate, keeping pace with my computer second for second. The only two areas of shade to be cast would be the Lume and alignment of some of the indices with the hands. The type and amount of Lume on the hands for illumination at night just doesn't work. The good news though, at least from the illumination perspective, is the jeweling of the hands and indices allows for good time keeping in low, not no, light situations. As far as the indices themselves, they are ever-so slightly misaligned with the hands. But this is so slight, it could be nit-picking on my part. In closing, I am very pleased with both the aesthetics and operation of this watch and look forward to Timex's continued introduction of new and reissued quality timepieces."
