Acrylic lens are a specialised form of plastic akin to Plexiglass and were commonly used in early to mid-20th century watches. It is a softer material that can be more prone to scratches but conversely is very shatter-resistant. Given its softness any scratches though can be buffed out. "This is a great watch. I don't love the strap that it comes on but that is more of a personal preference - there is nothing wrong with it. The Flying Ace is an undercover strap monster and looks great with a 2 piece nylon - I have it on an olive/red one right now. I have also put it on an an antique brown leather - both look amazing. If you want a conversation starter. . . this is it! Great dial!"
