A Fuller Expression of Time

First introduced in 1990, the Moon Phase and Calendar Dial brought a sense of occasion to everyday timekeeping. Its comparatively sophisticated layout combined a lunar cycle indicator with full calendar functions, creating a watch that tracked more than the hours and minutes.

It followed the rhythm of the month, the turn of the date, and even the quiet, steady cycle of the moon overhead. More than three decades later, that distinctive approach to time returns in a reissue that feels both technical and poetic.Timex 1990 Moon Phase and Calendar Dial Reissue worn on the wrist with its gold-tone case, white dial, and brown leather strap in view.

The 37mm polished gold-tone stainless-steel case sets the stage with a beautifully tiered bezel, framing a cream dial rich in detail. Sitting just beyond the central time display are two outer rings which give you the monthly calendar at a glance, separated from a crisp Arabic numeral index by a printed rail track with an applied metallic marker at each hour.

The two outer rings encircling the dial can be independently set to track the day of the week and the date using the two knobs flanking the crown. Simply align the ‘1’ with the first day of the month to give yourself a view of the full monthly calendar. Detailed view of the blue-and-gold moon phase display, black numerals, calendar markings, and gold-tone hands.

At the center, a thin gold-tone ring ties the design together, encircling both the main hub and a dedicated 28-day moon phase window just above it, where crisp lunar illustrations track the current phase of the moon. Completing the dial design is a date window at 6 o’clock that brings even more visual interest. It can be set by pulling the crown out one stop and turning it clockwise.

Finished with a dark brown crocodile-grain natural leather strap responsibly sourced from the Leather Working Group (LWG) and equipped with quick-release spring bars, this distinctive reissue brings a sense of occasion to everyday timekeeping.
