Enhanced durability
Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"There’s very little to dislike about this watch, especially at this price point. It looks fantastic and has a distinctive presence on the wrist (7 inch wrist), with polished indices that catch the light beautifully and enhance legibility from a distance. The lume performs well—nothing extraordinary, but certainly adequate. The blue dial is absolutely stunning and gives the watch real character. It’s easily earned a place in my weekly rotation. I also appreciate the subtle nod to Waterbury, which feels personal since I’m originally from the area. My only real complaint is that I wish TIMEX offered an option for a stainless steel bracelet."

"Watch looks identical to the picture, dial is quite striking to look at especially with the polished hour markers and minute/hour hand, the sunburst pattern in the dial plays wonderfully with the polished brightwork. One star off due to the garbage strap. I promptly replaced it with something nicer, Timex should sell this with a decent racing/rally strap instead of a strap more suited for a field watch."
