Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"It’s been a year now that I’ve had that watch along with, in the same purchase, my favorite of all, the Navi XL. When I was a child I had a Timex Melody with a rubber band, there were four buttons, one at each corner and five different melodies. I adored it as being a symbol of cool. The last I saw of it, the band was broken and the electronics in it didn’t work. When I saw that Q reissue I was excited to rekindle with my youth by owning a digital Timex. I’ve had some people asking me about the functions on it. I like the dual time that I set at London time so I can be ready for the Premier League matches. This is a classic! I love everything about it!"
