Mineral Crystal
A toughened glass made from silica that's heat- and scratch-resistant, offering clear visibility and solid everyday durability.
Mineral Glass
Enhanced durability
Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

"Excellent watch with one mark against it. The Timex blog (on this website from December 12th), specifically says "Complete with luminant in-fill on the hands for nighttime visibility. " This simply is not true. There is zero "luminant" on this watch and no way (besides an independent light source) to view it in the dark. Too bad Timex didn't add "indiglo" while updating this classic. Other than that, the watch is strikingly beautiful, especially the band. The pictures don't really do it justice."

Q&A
Does this watch have luminosity?
Hi Kevin! Unfortunately, this specific model doesn't have luminous features. However, we do have other fantastic watches with lume! Would you like me to show you some similar options?
How does one activate the chronograph function?
Hi Mike! We want to clarify this clearly. The Huckberry x Timex 1979 Black Max is not a chronograph — it uses a Japanese 3-hand quartz movement. There is no chronograph function to activate on this model.
Does the second hand move under normal operation?
Hi Mike! Thank you for your patience, and we’d like to update the earlier response regarding the seconds hand behavior. The Huckberry x Timex 1979 Black Max uses a Japanese 3-hand quartz movement, and the seconds hand operates as part of standard timekeeping, ticking once per second.
How to use the tachometer feature on a black max
Hello Mike! The tachymeter markings on this watch are decorative only—they were added to give the watch a sporty look. They are not functional, and we’d like to update the information provided earlier that the tachymeter cannot be used as a working feature. This model does not have a chronograph, so the tachymeter is non-functional and included for its sporty aesthetic only.
Hi, what size is this watch lug to lug? Thank you!
Hi An! Thank you for asking about the dimensions. The lug-to-lug measurement on the Huckberry x Timex 1979 Black Max is 47mm. This size gives the watch a bold wrist presence while still being wearable for most wrist sizes.
