Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

This is a REALLY nice
"This is a REALLY nice looking watch. It just looks "solid" and well made. The leather band is of good quality as well. I'm sure I'll use it for a long time. However, there is one thing about it that would have made me NOT buy it if I could have seen the watch in person. While the watch looks very sharp in the online pictures, once you receive it you realize the face of the watch is very cluttered and the hands get "lost" in the clutter. I find it hard to take a quick look at the watch and find the time. You have to pause for a second to "find" the hands amongst all the other "stuff" that is on the face of the watch. You have the regular numbers, the 24 hour numbers, the minute hash tags between the numbers, the words "Timex", "Expedition" "Indiglo". It doesn't look bad in the online pictures but in real life all of that stuff really clutters up the face. Also, part of the problem may be the white hands don't contrast with the face of the watch well enough to allow them to stand out. It's definitely not a deal killer as it is a great watch and it's not as big of an issue in daylight but I did find myself having to pause for a brief second to find the hands. My suggestion would be to remove the military time hours and/or make the hands solid black. Otherwise, really nice watch. I'm keeping it in hopes that I eventually adjust to the issues above."
