Enhanced durability
Mineral crystals use a similar material to windowpane glass and were developed for watches as a harder alternative to acrylic. Mineral crystals are still susceptible to scratches but less so than acrylic, however it is not possible to buff out these scratches as it is with acrylic. Mineral glass is not as shatter resistant as acrylic but does offer greater transparency and clarity. Due to their improved scratch resistance versus acrylic, and improved shatter resistance versus sapphire, mineral is often considered to be the best of both worlds as a crystal material.

The older watch still runs and we were about to replace the battery which is easy to find, but we need a jeweler to see if the back cover can be sealed - we believe there might be a ding along the edge somewhere. - I have a new Timex watch which I believe as called an easy reader expansion band watch although that name does not appear on the watch. I wasn't given a manulal when I bought the watch and can't fine one on-line. Are you able to point me in the right direction cheers Davew
