Beginning as the Waterbury Clock Company in Connecticut’s Brass City, we combined European clockmaking and American ingenuity to take clocks from the mantels of the 1% and bring them to the rest of the world. We boldly shook up a 300-year-old industry to craft quality, accessible timepieces, and went on to carve out our place in time with a long list of firsts in watchmaking.
For the last 170 years, our commitment to innovative craftsmanship and thoughtful design has been our driving force. From technological breakthroughs like our revolutionary INDIGLO® backlight to introducing the first sports watch with our TIMEX IRONMAN®, we've been pioneers in the watch industry. We were one of the first watchmakers to collaborate with other brands back in 1928, the first to offer a $1 pocket watch, the first to introduce a smart watch with the Timex Data Link, and the first to launch a circular program for watches with Timex ReWound.
We proved that our watches could take a licking and keep on ticking time and time again through a series of live televised torture tests in the ‘60s, fearlessly shot them into space in the ‘90s, and have proudly seen them find their way onto the wrists of presidents, celebrities, and world-famous athletes throughout the years.
